Every date on this site comes from a named source and carries the date of its check. When sources disagree on a date, the guide leaves that date out or notes the disagreement.
Where the facts come from
Most facts on this site come from official pages. These are the casinos' own websites, Great Canadian Entertainment and Mohegan pages and news releases, and OLG's Find A Casino page. Grand River Raceway's own pages cover the raceway. For the wider picture, the guide uses the Office of the Auditor General of Ontario, iGaming Ontario, the AGCO, ConnexOntario and PlaySmart.
Some history is missing from official pages. Wikipedia articles fill those gaps for a short list of topics. They are Casino Niagara's place in Ontario's casino history, Brantford's earlier names, Flamboro Downs' owners and Mohegan's 2019 agreement. Each article used is named on the method page.
Clara Novak, the guide's author, checks each opening date, former name, operator, address and set of hours against these sources, and dates every check. The facts now on the site were checked on October 7 and 8, 2026, and each page shows the date of its check.
When sources disagree
Sources do not always agree. When dates or figures differ, the guide leaves them out or says plainly that the sources differ.
This guide gives no founding year for the Flamboro Downs track.
Holiday hours are not given anywhere on the site, so they should be checked on each casino's own site.
Counting years and hours
Years open are counted by the site from each casino's opening date to the reader's current date. The figure therefore depends on when the page is read.
Casino hours and table hours are kept apart. Elements Casino Flamboro is open 24/7. Its live table games keep shorter hours: Sunday to Thursday 11 AM to 1 AM, and Friday and Saturday 11 AM to 3 AM. A page listing just the table hours would make the casino look closed overnight.
